THUNDER HORSE is Back in 2023 with the new album AFTER THE FALL on Ripple Music!
It’s hard to believe that THUNDER HORSE is on album number three already. It wasn’t too long ago that I witnessed the San Antonio doom-stoner foursome answer the broiling heat of summer with a sizzling set of their own at the inaugural Ripple Fest Texas. Now the band is poised to release ‘After The Fall’ (2023), a record that’s as grungy and gutsy as you like, with a doom core and metallic frame, beer-battered and deep-fried in fuzzy, southern blues.
Close your eyes and imagine the brooding sounds of early Sabbath, the massive wall of guitars made famous by bands like Deep Purple and Mountain, on a sonic ally mesmerizing Pink Floyd Trip, and then you will have a taste of the experience that Thunder Horse brings.
The guitar gives a saucy introduction to “After The Fall,” the title track, which also kicks off this 8-track wrecking ball. Down and out again. No one to call. Is this really the end? frontman Stephen Bishop wonders. It’s a slow and heavy ride from there, with plenty of sparks and flames along this wicked stretch of road. No hesitation here in tagging this another classic of the doom genre.
Stephen Bishop (vocals, guitar), Todd “The Bird” Connally (guitar), Dave Crow (bass, vox), and Jason “Shakes” West (drums) have really gelled as a team in the years since I first saw them perform. A solid metal act, through and through.
Look for Thunder Horse’s After The Fall on July 21st, coming out on CD and vinyl c/o Ripple Music (pre-order here), with the album release party slated for August 12th (get there).
